Challenge: Design a warehouse solution that would enable two new warehouses to operate at peak performance as quickly as possible.
Solution: Wifi infrastructure, mobile printers, tablets, mobile computers, and custom software.
Story: A well-known distribution company was opening two new warehouses in Atlanta and Dallas. They wanted these facilities up and running as quickly as possible. They called in EMP Technical Group to assist with a turn-key warehouse solution. The EMP engineering team began by completing a site survey for the wireless infrastructure. They implemented 8 Access Points indoors and 1 Access Point outside at the loading dock. EMP also installed a virtual controller at the Indiana headquarters so the WiFi could be monitored/controlled remotely.
After the Wifi was established, EMP engineered 2 mobile carts with a Newcastle battery/power supply, Zebra ZT230 WiFi printer, and a Zebra ET50 10” tablet with Gamber Johnson cradle. This allows the customer to wheel the printer and tablet around the shipping area for incoming labels and some shipping functions.
They also installed 4 Zebra ZT410s with Link-OS in the Shipping and Receiving area for general barcode labeling on product coming in and out of the facility.
Each of the warehouse “pickers” was armed with an MC9200 mobile computer for scanning inventory. These devices are built to withstand tough environments, while also have the processing power needed to get things done quickly.
During EMP’s initial discovery meetings with the customer, they decided that they also wanted a consistent method for keeping all mobile devices up-to-date. The software engineers at EMP installed SOTI remote device manager on all of the mobile devices so that headquarters can configure and push all updates to devices at both Atlanta and Dallas. In addition, the team at EMP was able to assist the “pickers” by installing a software product by Ivanti. The custom script allows the customer to scan a part number and in return, they receive an image from the customer’s internal web page of what the correct product looks like.
In the end, EMP Technical Group was able to fully automate the customer’s new warehouse from Wifi enabled printers to mobile computer, custom interface software, and much more! The warehouses were up and running in no time, and they can be easily monitored and maintained as time goes on.
There has never been a better time to automate! NOW is the time!
