Converting to BarTender with a Difficult Labeling Environment

Problem

A long-time manufacturing customer was relying on an legacy labeling system that required pulling data from multiple sources and couldn’t keep up with private-label variations or customer-specific requirements.

Solution

EMP developed a modern, BarTender-driven application that integrates directly with the customer’s ERP and uses a clean, rules-based database structure to manage all label logic. The new web-based system simplifies batch printing, handles customer-specific wording automatically, and gives the customer a scalable, flexible platform that EMP can continue to enhance over time.

Story

Through collaborative sessions, process walkthroughs, and deep analysis of how the customer actually produced and labeled their goods, EMP rebuilt the application from the ground up, this time leveraging BarTender as the operational engine. Instead of manually gathering hundreds of text fields, the new solution gives BarTender only the key data it needs, letting the software pull everything else from a structured, centralized database that EMP designed. Operators simply scan a part number, select the label type, and batch-print exactly what they need. Customer-specific wording, brand rules, measure units, template variations, and box types are all automatically applied behind the scenes. What began as a simple labeling tool has grown into a robust, long-term operational platform.
