Vial Labeling Using CAB Print and Apply

Problem

A customer needed a print and apply solution for labeling their 10mm vials that was user friendly, semi-autonomous, and error free.

Solution

EMP engineers installed a CAB Axon 2 printer with a built in 3214L-40 swing applicator for a simple semi-autonomous print solution.

Story

A long-time pharmaceutical customer sought to replicate a successful labeling process from another facility at a new site producing 10 mm vials. The challenge was to apply small labels almost instantly to prevent mix-ups between similar products. Drawing on prior experience with the customer, EMP engineers recommended the CAB Axon 2, a device the client already knew for its reliability and performance.

In operation, the user places each vial horizontally between two applicator rods. The Axon 2 prints a 1 × 1 inch identification label and, with its built-in swing applicator, rotates the vial as the label is applied for precise, consistent placement. While the solution may appear straightforward, it reflects EMP’s ability to match practical, proven technology to specific production needs—avoiding unnecessary complexity or overspecification. The result is a user-friendly labeling process that integrates seamlessly into lab workflows, even for operators with limited prior experience.
