We keep a lot of demo gear around our place; I mean A LOT. And most of it is mobile computers, be those RFID, or just bar code scanning. One of the pains of keeping all this demo gear is having cradles and power supplies around for all of it. We are constantly purchasing more cradles, chargers, DC line cords, AC line cords, power strips, etc.
But we have started to notice that many of the new mobile computers that we sell, are actually coming with USB-C connectors for charging. Not all of them yet, but more and more of them.
And we have started to notice that some of our customers are starting to use these types of chargers for their devices. It doesn’t always work, but with some of the less rugged tablets and TC devices, where we are replacing consumer devices, USB-C can be a good option.
Now, one of the advantages of Zebra devices is that almost all of them have a hot swappable battery. So, if you want to take advantage of that feature, a battery charger is still a must-have option. And preferably a multi slot charger so you always have fully charged batteries enabling the devices to be used for multi shifts.
But some of our demo gear issues have gone away with the ability to use USB-C cables for charging. And not having to stock a cradle and its power cords for each one.
