OK, we admit it, sometimes we nerd out a little too much in this Newsletter. Diving into details about BarTender, label printers, mobile computers, RFID, etc. But this is what we do, and when we see a breakthrough, we get excited. And we have seen customers struggle to keep full Windows PC updated, and functioning properly on their shop floors. Wishing that they had a better alternative. Luckily, this past Fall Zebra released the ZEC500 Enterprise Computer; a stand alone device that allows you to create multi-function enterprise computer tailored to meet just about any computing need in any vertical market.
Previously we seen customers use a Raspberry Pi to try to get a simple task accomplished without utilizing a PC with all of its baggage. All in the name of getting work done on a production floor as quickly and easily as possible. That is why we have been using the CC6000 for some years now for these types of applications. An Android device with touch screen, barcode scanner, Wi-Fi, all in one, at a reasonable price.
Sure, Zebra really intended it for retail applications, but we immediately thought about all of our life sciences customers who have super clean facilities that would benefit from this type of device. Heck, even many of our automotive customers have environments that mean they could use this device.
Here is the best part. Most applications these days are either browser based or have an Android version available. Meaning that using an Android device on the shop floor almost always works. Plus, you have Zebra’s version of Android allowing you to scan data into applications easily, deploying the devices with one barcode scan. Easily managed by MDMs such as SOTI, and allowing us to quickly write applications for you using our secret weapon MCL.
