Challenge
Design a labeling process for visually impaired operators, centered on mobility and efficiency.
Solution
A Newcastle lithium-ion mobile cart, three Zebra ZD420 printers, and custom software for integration.
Story

The EMP team is always looking to serve its customers, and they love a customer that is also a good cause. Bosma Enterprises has been one of those customers for some time: a great partnership where EMP provides the products and services that help Bosma run efficiently, and gets to give back to a great charity along the way.
So when Bosma asked EMP to help make a new labeling operation both mobile and more efficient, EMP gladly jumped in. A new customer requirement was driving the change: VA hospitals across the United States now require items to be packaged in a more sterile container and labeled with a Bosma GS1 barcode directly on the packaging.
The engineers at EMP designed a mobile power cart with a custom software application to meet the new requirements. The Newcastle lithium-ion cart was loaded with three Zebra ZD420 printers, and Bosma added its own laptop and a very large monitor so visually impaired operators can use the system. As a new package is presented, its barcode is scanned into the custom program. The operator presses a button to select which of three manufacturers they are labeling for, then presses print, and the label comes out of the printer assigned to that manufacturer. The system meets every VA requirement and has made the labeling process more efficient.
