It is funny how the basics can trip you up. We receive calls from customers every day having issues with their label printers. Many times, there is a hardware problem. Sometimes, it is software related. But a surprisingly large amount of the time, there is a mis match between the label, and the thermal ribbon.

A few years ago, we did a project guide laying out some of the challenges and solutions to label printing. We also did some education on the materials to choose from, and when to use what material.

The bottom line is this, wax with paper labels, resin blend for some synthetic labels, and full resin ribbons for more exotic synthetics. Then there is print speed and darkness. Orientation of text and barcodes. Required smudge and scratch resistance. Oh, by the way, you have to test it. To really be sure that you are choosing the correct ribbon for your label material, the best way is to test. Watch the video below to get a better understanding of the importance of exercising this crucial step in label production.
