Faster to a Disaster

OK, so we are not a restoration company. And we typically do not have to deal with emergencies or disasters from our customers. But over the years, EMP has been called upon to help a customer that is in an emergency state and needs our help.

The first one that I can think of was the theft of equipment that happened over a weekend. Come Monday morning everyone comes to work, only to discover that label printers, PC’s, barcode scanners, etc. have been stolen over the weekend. It turned out to be an inside job by a disgruntled employee, but we were able to rush some demo equipment over to the customer site on Monday morning, and the customer was limping along in production by later that day. Much later, after everything was fully restored, the customer let us know that not one shipment was missed to their customers, partly due to our help.

Lots of other issues have come up over the years, servers go down, data gets wiped out, certificates expire, more mundane IT calamities that we help with whenever possible. Even just the routine my printer stopped working, or my mobile computers updated last night, and they are all down can be a disaster.

Lately the natural disasters more often than not have been ransomware. While our role in restoring things is more limited in this case, we still get called upon to help rebuild systems if the ransom is not paid. Restoring custom applications that we may have written years ago. Or even restoring and rebuilding third party software that we have sold in the past.

We don’t quote this service or worry if we are going to get paid. Our team just jumps in and helps. You know the way a good neighbor would. The way a trusted advisor would. The way your friend would.

And, after the sigh of relief from the customer, and some heartfelt thanks for us being there. We all feel affirmation about our company culture, and our role in the business world. We drop everything that we are doing to help you in your hour of need. That is the way it should be.
